In Guatemala’s Sugar Cane Agroindustry, harnessing production waste is a priority. Alcohol is produced from molasses, a residue of sugar manufacturing. Each year, mills produce up to 65 million gallons of alcohol, demonstrating agroindustry’s commitment to a circular economy model.
Production process
Through a meticulous distillation process, residual honeys or molasses are purified to extract alcohol of the highest quality. This process is carried out with advanced technology and under strict quality controls, ensuring that the alcohol produced meets the highest standards.
Various uses and export
Guatemalan alcohol has multiple uses, from cosmetics and pharmaceuticals to the production of liquors and ethanol. In 2023, export of alcohol accounted for 8% of the total exports of Guatemala’s Sugar Cane Agroindustry, resulting in US$130 million of currencies for Guatemala. Alcohol used as fuel alcohol is exported to other countries with regulations that allow the mixing of gasoline and ethanol.
Quality and experience
Alcohol-producing mills have highly trained experts and state-of-the-art technology to ensure a final product that meets the highest international standards.
